Mark’s Story
Mark (name changed) attended a Healthworks free cancer awareness session delivered to staff at Gateshead Citizens Advice.
What Healthworks did:
Healthworks delivered an interactive cancer awareness session covering the signs and symptoms of breast, cervical, prostate, bowel, testicular, and head and neck cancers.
The session also explored cancer screening, early diagnosis and practical ways to reduce cancer risk.
Participants were encouraged to feel more comfortable talking about cancer, recognise changes in their bodies and understand when to seek medical advice.
Cancer Awareness Outcomes:
Following the session, he shared what he had learned with friends, encouraging them to be aware of changes in their bodies and seek medical advice when needed.
Mark explained that he had never previously felt comfortable having these conversations.
By sharing his knowledge with others, he helped spread important cancer awareness messages beyond the original session and into his wider community.
“After the session, I spoke to my friends about checking for changes to their bodies and getting anything unusual checked. It’s something I’d never talked about before, but now I know how important it is.”
