The RENEW Programme

In partnership with Treskock we are delighted to offer the RENEW programme for people living with or beyond cancer.

What is RENEW?

RENEW is an 8 week programme of small group classes of up to 12 people who are living with or recovered from cancer.

The sessions are based at the Health Resource Centre, Adelaide Terrace, NE4 8BE and are led by a personal instructor who is specialised in training people who have been diagnosed with cancer or are living with the effects.

Each session builds on the one before and can be adjusted for any level of fitness and other limitations. The class will include resistance training and cardio to build strength, stamina, and confidence.

At the end of the 8 weeks, you will be sent a certificate to celebrate your achievements and can join our fortnightly top-up sessions to help keep you active.

The RENEW programme aims to:

  • Raise awareness in young cancer patients about physical activity guidelines and its benefits during and after treatment.
  • Provide guidance and skill-building to help young people increase activity levels and meet national recommendations.
  • Support sustainable behavior change for long-term physical activity.
  • Ensure physical activity is enjoyable, enhances quality of life, aids recovery, and reduces cancer-related fatigue and other treatment side effects.
  • Offer peer support, helping young people connect with others who face similar physical and mental challenges in staying active.

Who is it for?

• Young adults aged 20 to 40 who have or have had cancer at any point in their lifetime. They may be currently in active treatment or post treatment.

• Participants in active treatment can refer themselves or be referred by a member of their Multi Disciplinary Team (medical consent to enrol on the programme must be given by their Medical Oncology Team or CNS). Participants who have been discharged from treatment can refer themselves or be referred by their GP.

Please note that people with medical issues that their healthcare professionals think would make any sort of increase in physical activity unsafe such as low platelet count/ blood count etc are unable to access the programme.
