Role Description

Join us as a Physical Activity Team Volunteer and contribute to our mission of helping individuals lead longer, happier, and healthier lives through physical activity and health management. This volunteer opportunity offers you the chance to assist in specialised classes, shadow experienced team members, and support gym users in achieving their fitness goals.

Responsibilities:

  1. Class Assistance:
    • Assist in specialised classes such as Next Steps, Staying Steady (falls prevention), and Escape Pain (pain management through physical activity).
    • Support instructors and participants during classes, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  2. Shadowing and Learning:
    • Shadow members of the Physical Activity Team in various activities, including gym inductions, and fitness and nutrition planning.
    • Learn from experienced team members and observe best practices in health and fitness management.
  3. Gym Assistance:
    • Assist in the gym areas, providing support and guidance to gym users.
    • Liaise with clients to understand their fitness goals and develop personalised exercise plans.
    • Support clients in improving their levels of physical activity and achieving their fitness goals.
  4. Potential Leadership Opportunities:
    • Eventually, lead gym inductions and assist in producing fitness plans for clients under supervision.

Requirements:

  1. Interest in Fitness: Have a genuine interest in fitness and a desire to help others achieve their health and fitness goals.
  2. Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated empathy, patience, and understanding towards individuals facing health challenges or lifestyle changes, which may involve setbacks.
  3. Good Communication: Good communication and listening skills, with a welcoming, approachable, and observant demeanour.
  4. Flexibility: Be adaptable to different situations and willing to participate in various classes, gym sessions and community events.
  5. DBS Check: Willingness to undergo a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  6. Level 2 Personal Training Certification: Desirable but not essential.
