Benwell and Beyond: Celebrating 30 Years of Healthworks

As we countdown to our celebration plans next year, we are excited to announce a unique, participatory photography project titled “Benwell and Beyond: Celebrating 30 Years of Healthworks.”

Benwell and Beyond is part of a wider Our Adelaide Terrace project and will showcase Healthworks diverse health and wellbeing programmes.  Portraying everything from local classes and workshops to family events and community-based initiatives at the Health Resource Centre on Adelaide Terrace.

Community portraits: Capturing Benwell and Beyond
A highlight of the project is the community-focused portrait sessions that will invite users, staff, and local residents to participate. These sessions will capture individual stories and celebrate the local community.

Local photographer Maria Maza is collaborating on this project, bringing her expertise to document these portraits and moments.

A final celebration
As the project progresses, Healthworks will host special drop-in events to provide more opportunities for community members to participate – so watch out for more information about how you can get involved.

Benwell and Beyond will culminate in February 2025 with a celebratory exhibition showcasing the portraits and images from the project.

The legacy of Healthworks: 30 years strong and growing
From an early programme in the west end of Newcastle to regional health initiatives that cater to all ages, Healthworks has remained committed to making a positive impact and reducing health inequalities.

This anniversary is not only a time for celebration but also a reminder of our continued mission to support people of all ages across the North East to live longer, healthier and happier lives.
