Calling ‘Action!’ on male cancer awareness, through film

A series of new short films are to be launched in the North East next month, aimed at raising awareness – and breaking down the stigmas – around male cancer.

Healthworks have teamed up with Orchid to promote ‘TAKE 3’ which explores three real life cancer stories.

The films are designed to get people thinking and talking about prostate, testicular and penile cancer and will be followed by awareness talks, supported by personal testimonies, to help debunk the myths, provide insight, share information and help increase knowledge, about male cancers.

The event to be held at One Strawberry Lane, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 4BX on Wednesday 14 June, between 12 noon and 3pm. The event is free although pre-booking is required.

The event will start with an afternoon tea style lunch and there will be stalls and information stands available. Following an introduction to Healthworks and Orchid, the new films will be premiered.

Julie Stephens, Senior Manager of Health Promotion. says: “We are delighted to be partnering with Orchid to highlight the importance of cancer awareness for men of all ages.

“There are more than 55,000 new cases of prostate, testicular and penile cancer each year in the UK, and sadly around 12,000 people will die from these diseases. Early detection and diagnosis are incredibly important, so being aware of what to look out for and talking about any physical changes or symptoms with your doctor an make a real difference.”
