A to Z of Breastfeeding – Free Download
Our A to Z of Breastfeeding is an easy-read guide for anyone who is breastfeeding, planning to breastfeed, or still deciding what’s right for them.
Download it and share it with anyone who might find it helpful.
Position and Attachment
Good position and attachment is a vital part of a comfortable and successful breastfeeding journey.
Some points to think about when settling down for a feed:
- Is the baby nice and close to your body?
- Is the position comfortable for you?
- Is baby’s head unrestricted and free to move?
- Are you bringing baby nose to nipple?
Hand Expression: A Gentle Way to Express Breast Milk
Hand expression is a simple way to express breast milk by hand. It can help if your breasts feel full, sore or uncomfortable, and is often gentler than using a breast pump.
In the early days, hand expression can help you collect colostrum, especially if your baby is slow to start feeding or needs extra support.
This video from Unicef gives a good demonstration of hand expression
